Line Art: - Any image, color or black and white, which is solid color and without screen values. - Scanned line art must be scanned at a minimum 600 dpi. Preferred input resolution is 1200 dpi or better in order to avoid jaggy edges. Provide vector art if possible so adjustments can be made for printability.
Raster Images: - If Photoshop artwork was created with layers, please send layered files. - Do not scan previously printed screens. - JPEG, GIF or any other low resolution graphic formats are NOT acceptable and will not be accepted.
Text: - All text should be converted to outlines (or curves). - Type reversed out of solid colors needs to be bold or black (extra bold). Avoid serif fonts such as Times. - Type should be no smaller than 8 point but 10 point is preferred for silkscreen and offset. - The larger the type, the better it will print.

All artwork submitted to HumphreyLine will be faxed or emailed (PDF format) for customer approval. The fax approval should be examined very closely before it is signed off. Not only should the typesetting be looked at for correct spelling but also for color separations, ink colors to be printed and the overall layout requested. The fax proof should always be considered the FINAL approval on any artwork. Delayed response to a fax will result in delayed production. Once the fax is approved HumphreyLine will not be responsible for errors in artwork.
Specific instructions regarding layout and type styles must be clearly stated on your order. Verbal instructions will not be accepted. If instructions are not given, we will use our discretion. A sans serif block font will be used if no type style is specified. All cups, pails and bottles will be printed one panel width/one side if not specified. Other products are sized to maximum image area unless otherwise specified. Not all type styles and point sizes are suitable for all products. Block Sans Serif type styles are recommended. All jobs requiring typesetting will be faxed for approval. Delayed response to fax proof will result in delayed production. Once fax is approved, we will not be responsible for errors in typesetting.
Reverse Type: - Reverse type is difficult to print. Minimize use of reverse type. If reverse type is used, design the reverse type at the center of the container. This is the easiest place to print.
Color Tints: - All tints must be made with Pantone Colors. - Do not use combinations of Pantone Colors with CMYK Process Colors. - Avoid using color builds and overprinting techniques with spot colors.
Vignettes and Fades: - No Vignettes or Fades to 0% dot value in document (artwork). - Halftone Screens should be no lighter than 15% and no darker than 45% on silkscreen printed products. - Halftone Screens will be printed at 50-55 lpi on silkscreen printed products.
Solid Color Areas: - Large wrap or block elements of 100% color should be avoided especially with reverse elements within them. These large areas of ink tend to fade and have uneven coverage caused by many varying factors from production of product to the printing of the product.
Trapping Requirements: - Do Not use trapping programs to adjust for trapping. Our Art Dept. will trap the artwork as needed.
Fine Detail and Corporate Logos: - Try to place fine detail and important graphics, such as a corporate logo, towards the center of the container. Avoid the very top and very bottom of the container since most distortion and press gain occurs in these areas. Distortion and gain varies depending on the container size and taper.
- 7 pt. Sans Serif (positive imprint) - 8 pt. Sans Serif (reverse imprint) - Serif and italic type should be at least 10 pt. - Letterspacing should not be too close together or too condensed. - Line weights should be at least .7 stroke for positive lines and 1 pt. reverse.
- some detail loss occurs when silkscreening on neoprene (i.,e. small a’s and e’s may fill-in or thin lines will be broken). - If your type is below the .094” recommended minimum letter height it may have fill-in and detail loss (use at least a 10 pt. sans serif uncondensed font for legibility).
- Minimum point sizes for silkscreen should be 8 pt. Sans Serif for positive copy and 10 pt. bold Sans Serif for reverse copy. - All silkscreen jobs are printed at 55 lines per inch. This large dot pattern is not recommended for type, thin lines or small areas. Screening on pails, cups, and bottles may print unevenly.
